What is Mediation and How Can it Help You?

Mediation, also referred to as Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), allows parties in a dispute the opportunity to discuss their concerns in an informal setting with the assistance of a neutral third party, the mediator. The mediator is prohibited from taking sides, deciding your case or giving you advice of any kind - legal, financial or personal. The mediator's role is to help facilitate communication, keep the conversation focused on the issues and help you explore possible solutions to your dispute. If you reach an agreement, it becomes a legally binding contract, enforceable by the court.

Mediation can save you time and money. The proverbial "day" in court can often turn into months or even years, resulting in irreversible damage to your well-being, your quality of life and your finances. Whether you are involved in a lawsuit, contemplating a lawsuit or simply hoping to resolve a problem with someone you know, it is never too late, or too early, to consider mediation.
